Raphael Suites, Antwerp

People tend to choose more and more an alternative to a hotel. More space, privacy or cooking facilities are common arguments to decide whether to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel room. This trend now seems to be continuing with city trippers looking for a comfortable oasis in the city center. The ideal solution for those more demanding visitors is an apartment with the luxury of a hotel. At Raphael Suites in Antwerp, they understand this new concept very well.

De Witte Lelie, Antwerp

“The most beautiful place to spend the night in Antwerp”, that was the answer we received almost unanimously when we asked several people what to expect from Hotel De Witte Lelie in Antwerp. We have to admit; this hotel really is a hidden treasure in the city centre. With hidden we mean that the clean, impressive three wall façade only reveals a small piece of the grandeur of De Witte Lelie. Butcher Atelier Millevaches

‘t Eilandje in Antwerp has yet another special shop to add to the list. At butcher Atelier Millevaches the carcasses are left to cure in the display window. A lot of passers-by stop spontaneously to get a closer look, because you have to admit, it’s not something you see every day. The reactions from the public are quite different to say the least. Some find it distasteful and inappropriate, others find it artistic, authentic and beautiful. Although the opinions on the carcasses differ, Millevaches‘ vision is clear: quality above quantity.   Continue Reading

Lunch Lounge Het Gebaar, Antwerp

Recently, we finally found time to have a proper lunch in Het Gebaar, although just before we did we were at rather a low ebb having just survived a week on not much more than bananas and crackers after being felled by a bad cold. So lunch at Roger van Damme’s for our first proper meal… that’s an extra reason to really let ourselves go!

Fong Mei, Antwerp

We decided last minute to grab the late-night movie of 10pm today, which meant that we quickly had to find a place to have a nice meal before. Fong Mei is located in the Antwerp Chinatown, close to the movie theater. They have the best dim sum in the city, which is the most important reason to go there of course.
