Caro Hotel, Valencia

In het centrum van Valencia

The Caro Hotel is located in the city centre of Valencia, in a quiet little street near the cathedral and the city parks. It’s just a couple of minutes walking to the Plaza de la Virgen and the Plaza de la Reina, the Plaza Redonda, the Basilica de la Virgen, etc… Other tourist areas such as the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences) or the dock area are very close by as well.

A true boutique hotel

Operating commercially indepent, the hotel has everything you’d wish for in a genuine boutique hotel. The architecture of the building is just stunning. When renovating the building, they discovered remains of ancient history at the location. So instead of just building up something new, the project developers at the Caro Hotel decided to put the archeological remains in the spotlights, by restoring as much as possible and by integrating the remains in the modern design of the hotel. The project was lead by the interior designer Francesc Rifé who was meticulous in its attention to detail, imbuing the hotel with a contemporary air, clean, geometric lines, which merge seamlessly with the original architectonic features of the former Palace of the Marquis of Caro, whose eclectic facade dates back to the nineteenth century. Beyond its facade, its walls stand guard over an unparalleled inheritance of more than 2,000 years of history, of which the original mosaic belonging to the founding city of the Roman era, «Valentia Edetanorum» (2nd century B.C.), the thirteenth-century Arabic defensive wall, several gothic arches and nineteenth-century constructions have been preserved, restored and integrated into its spaces.

In juxtaposition to the stark beauty of Francesc Rifé’s interior design, the Palace’s tilework offers a visual perfume and a «leit motiv» of its very own. All of the pieces on display are original and offered up by the building’s generous historical legacy. It provides guests with an insightful journey through production techniques and design motifs of the rich ceramic traditions of a local industry of times past and allows these tiles to shine again in all their former splendour.

The result is a unique collection of 26 rooms, each different from the others, yet all warm, comfortable and inviting, where the architectural balance, pure lines and simple forms, the use of woods and the continuity of other first-class materials endow the settings with a great visual coherence. On the lower-ground floor, the gastronomic area houses three differently designed rooms equipped for all types of public events.

All the facilities you need

As the Caro Hotel is a 5-star hotel, the service and facilities are of course of the best standards. There’s the Sucede Restaurant (1 Michelin-star), the stylish Lobby-bar (Meta Bar) and a reading room. The elegant terrace and city garden is a real joy, both in summer and winter. The small swimming pool is just perfect for a refreshing dive, but beware as the ground of the pool is the ceiling of the restaurant, which has a really cool effect.

Stylish rooms

The Caro Hotel contains just 26 rooms situated on four floors, and categorised in double, superior and special. Also has two suites: The Arabic Tower and The Marquis Suite. The rooms are light, quiet and located with views over the private palace patio or the glass roof feature which covers the restaurant and other furnishings and illumination features specially designed for this project. We had the pleasure of staying in one of the superior rooms.
