The Sukhothai Bangkok

The Sukhothai Bangkok offers a luxurious, refined and contemporary approach to design and hospitality. The new Club Wing is attractive for both business and leisure guests, offering the convenience of top technology, service, comfort and a varied and extensive F&B offering. Located in a vibrant, cosmopolitan area of the capital of Thailand, it’s the perfect home base to discover the city.

“Handmade artistry in each movement. Service made legendary. The marriage of tradition with modern sophistication. Elegance that has captivated travellers for years. The famed hospitality of Thailand. Sanctuary in the heart of downtown Bangkok.”, that’s how The Sukhothai Bangkok presents the hotel. And we must say this place did meet the our very high expectations.

Love the location

Located in a modern and vibrant area of the city near Lumphini Park, The Sukhothai Hotel is an ideal starting point to discover Bangkok. Whether you’re on a business trip or enjoying a holiday, this area has it all. First it’s near to a fantastic park that’s hugely popular with local joggers. We were kind of overwhelmed by the masses of runners and the vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, which even gave us the impression that there was a running event going on. Second, many good restaurants and bars are located only a couple of blocks away. And third, the more traditional Bangkok can also be found just around the corner. So The Sukhothai Bangkok is only steps away from the vibrant business and entertainment districts, and within minutes to the markets, the Chao Phraya river and all the shopping you could ever want to do. As a hotel guest, you will discover the convenience of the hotel’s central location as much of the city can be reached with ease.

Sublime serenity

However when you stay at The Sukhothai Bangkok chances are that you’ll just decide to enjoy the luxury and convenience this place has to offer. It’s a landmark in itself. A variety of restaurants, a fantastic gym, a huge outdoor pool – that you’d rather situate in a beach resort instead of a city hotel – , a top-notch spa and rooms that have all the comfort and space one might dream of. No wonder The Sukhothai Bangkok has been awarded several prizes and recognitions in the past few years.

Recently they’ve added something new and very exciting to their offering: the Sukhothai Club Wing. This part of the hotel showcases a contemporary design with extra service and style. We were invited to discover the Club Rooms and Club Lounge, and we’re surely convinced this formula is an asset for the classic hotel offering.

Traditional meets contemporary design

As a member of the Design Hotels group, design plays a leading role at The Sukhothai Hotel. Kerry Hill Architects aimed to create an aesthetic that pays homage to the ancient city of Sukhothai while respecting Bangkok’s current status as a world city. This concept manifests itself as a landscape of Oriental gardens and lotus ponds dotted with low-lying geometric buildings in cool white that house world-class culinary establishments and guestrooms. Also adding to the authentic charm are symmetrical colonnades, reflection pools, and traditional Sukhothai-style sculptures, while a swimming pool and deck encourage guests to take in the scenery at their own pace. The hotel’s design takes its cue from the ancient city of Sukhothai, with its careful rendition of the magnificent Chedis and pagodas reminiscent of that graceful age.

The handiwork of Design Hotels™ Influencer Edward Tuttle, the interiors are guided by the Sukhothai design “elements” of water, silk, granite, mirror, and wood. Thai fabrics and reflective surfaces simultaneously add textural depth to a natural canvas of bronze, marble, silk, and teakwood while referencing the traditional Sukhothai style, and custom furnishings and lighting are found throughout the guestrooms. Ornaments and objets d’artrange from Oriental stone carvings to fragile plant- and flower-based centerpieces—a contrast that reflects the overall concept of ancient and contemporary hybridity. The recent Club Wing at The Sukhothai Hotel – also design by architect Edward Tuttle – boasts traditional Thai refinement and an immaculate contemporary style. This Wing will be very appealing for guests who value top quality and respect for the local heritage, yet prefer to stay in a more modern building with a touch of glamour.

The Club Experience at The Sukhothai Hotel

The residential-style club wing exudes style and glamour, and service is intuitive and personal. Foodies can splurge on deluxe breakfasts, all-day refreshments, evening hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. All rooms, suites and the private club lounge command views of the pool and gardens.

Guests at the Sukhothai Club Wing can choose between four spacious room types offering the most modern technology and amenities: the Club Room, the Club Balcony Room, the Club Suite and the Club Premier Suite. We stayed at the latter room type and were truly impressed by the aesthetic finishing and luxury.

The Club Premier Suite consists of a separate living, dining and bedroom area, a large bathroom, a big and smartly designed walk-in wardrobe and even a separate guest toilet. When you get up in the morning you can enjoy the view on the pool, while enjoying a cup of Nespresso coffee or premium Saro lotus tea, blended for The Sukhothai. Thanks to the soft 100% duck down pillows and duvets, the 400-thread count cotton sheets, the deep-soaking Jacuzzi tub and separate shower and the Bottega Veneta luxury bath amenities, you’re sure to enjoy a great night’s sleep and some serious pampering. High-speed internet, perfectly adjustable air-conditioning, a big high-definition LED television that swivels to any direction and a Harman Kardon guarantee every guest all they need for an agreeable work and relaxation experience.

The Club Lounge located on the sixth floor of the new Club Wing offers the ultimate in exclusivity with impressive views of the swimming pool. Guests can enjoy an a la carte breakfast, afternoon tea, or sip signature cocktails at the private bar. Additionally, the Club Wing also offers a private meeting room for up to six persons. Club guests can enjoy the Sukhothai’s Club benefits, including complimentary non-alcoholic beverages all day long, a personalized check-in in room and check-out, coffee or tea of choice delivered to the room with the wake-up call, complimentary daily breakfast, complimentary daily afternoon tea, complimentary evening cocktails, selected beverages and canapés, complimentary laundry/pressing of 2-pieces of laundry or pressing service per stay and even a complimentary meeting room 2 hours per stay. That’s what we call complimentary, so you can be sure you have nothing to worry about.

The breakfast is extensive and tasty, offering both a buffet and an à la carte menu.

During the evening cocktails you can enjoy a wide variety of appetizers, while sipping a professionally prepared cocktail or another high quality drink. The buffet presents a selection of the dishes from the different restaurants at The Sukhothai, both Thai and Western style.

Spa Botanica

Graceful Thai traditions, respected through the ages. Oils of lemongrass and ginger scrubs. The healing touch of a massage perfected over centuries. Spa Botanica – nominee for the World Luxury Spa Awards 2019 – is a haven of wellness and pampering to soothe your senses, a blend of the timeless healing traditions of Thailand and innovative relaxation techniques. We were lucky enough to enjoy the signature Sukhothai massage, that combines hot oil treatments with Thai massage techniques. Thanks to the high quality products, the skills of the team and the zen atmosphere, this must have been one of the best massages we experienced during our stay in Thailand.

An interesting food & beverage offering

No guest will be hungry at The Sukhothai, considering their champagne brunch at The Colonnade, their delightfully decadent chocolate buffet, their Thai cuisine offering at Celadon and their glorious Italian kitchen at La Scala (one Michelin star).
