A complete experience with great food, sleeping and enjoyment under one roof. You will be pampered in the hotel, restaurant and bar, in the middle of Antwerp.
U Eat & Sleep Antwerp – Tasty food, sleeping and enjoying
Viki Geunes & Hans Otten
When a renowned chef and a TV personality join forces, this will not go unnoticed. Even more, when that project turns out to be a hotel – restaurant – bar where everyone is welcome, you can count on a lot of interest. The fact that we are talking about U Eat & Sleep Antwerp – the new business of Viki Geunes (top chef of, among others, ‘t Zilte **) and Hans Otten (widely known in the television business) – may be clear with these hints. The men got to know each other during the recording of TV-show “Het Hotel Westende” and have been good friends ever since. Now they have also joined forces on a professional level.
Full experience at U Eat & Sleep Antwerp
Together with their wives, Vivian Plaquet and Colette Van Remortel, Viki and Hans were already thinking of launching an innovative horeca project in Antwerp for a while. Inspired by trends in world cities like London, New York and Amsterdam, the team has worked on a concept that places the guest in the middle, by focusing on a total experience. In June 2017 it finally happened: U Antwerp opened its doors with a lot of media attention. We have recently paid them a visit to fully test the place and we were quite impressed. A report…
The neighbours across the MAS at ‘t Eilandje in Antwerp
Location, location, location. This is often referred to as the most important requirement for a successful catering business. These checkboxes can already be ticked at U Antwerp, because the hotel – restaurant is located in a beautiful building on the corner of the Sint-Laureiskaai and the Nassaustraat. It is a quiet place amid the bustling ‘Eilandje’ of Antwerp. You will wake up here with view on the MAS and the marina. The large, comfortable terrace is the icing on the cake, you can enjoy nice snacks and drinks here all day long.
Stylish and contemporary: a unique interior with a twist
In order to properly highlight all the assets of U Antwerp, design of the same level is of course needed. This is why the skills of interior designer Karine Ribbens of April One were called upon. By using quiet, natural colours and materials with an ‘urban’ look, an atmosphere was created to make sure that everyone feels welcome and at home right away. At the same time, the fabrics of the furniture and the lighting provide a truly luxurious feeling. Thanks to the large windows with lots of light, neutral colours on the wall and the restored arches of the ceiling, the authenticity of the property is really done justice.
U Eat – Delicious food in Antwerp
At U Eat & Sleep Antwerp, various food and drink concepts are combined to fulfil the wishes of various people at various times. The interior has also been adapted to this concept, by working with a number of zones, each with a different seating height matching a certain experience. High tables to enjoy an aperitif and finger food, regular seats for relaxed dining or to continue working and cosy stools and seats to catch up with friends or read a book. There is something for everybody. U Resto, U Foodbar and U Lounge are accessible both to hotel guests and to people who just want to eat or drink something.
The experience at U Resto lies somewhere between fine dining and bistronomy. The restaurant can count on the support and experience of top chef Viki Geunes and a number of people from ‘t Zilte, who are now giving their best at U Resto only a few meters further. The atmosphere is intimate, but relaxed. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner here.
Is a bit more relaxed and dynamic okay with you? Then U Eat & Sleep Antwerp’s Food bar is what you need. At the round bar, you will see right from the high bar stools – which are very comfortable by the way – how the dishes are prepared in the kitchen. The U Food bar menu is available throughout the day.
U Lounge and terrace
For those wanting to meet with friends or colleagues or just wanting to work, the Lounge or the terrace is the place to be. Drinks, breakfast, finger food and small dishes are served here.
On the menu of U Eat & Sleep Antwerp
We were very curious about the dishes at U Eat & Sleep Antwerp, so we picked a place at the Food bar in order to enjoy the menu. We tasted some of the chef’s favourites with a nice glass of wine.
As appetizer, we were served a dish with bouchot mussels, parfum de provence and aioli.
The main course consisted of two bowls, containing oriental noodles, lacquered duck, peanuts and sautéed onion.
A classic and a bolder dessert to finish our meal: pineapple, kafir lime and yogurt.
To conclude: a nice interpretation of the dame blanche with vanilla ice cream, chocolate, and whipped cream.
U sleep – Sweet dreams at ‘t Eilandje
After dinner, we only have to take the elevator to the first floor to enjoy the wonderfully luxurious hotel rooms. Each room is unique at U Eat & Sleep Antwerp, but they all share the open, light, and stylish feeling. You can choose between three types of rooms: cozy, charming and luxury.
A glance at the minibar is an experience in itself, as we have rarely seen such a cool and nice collection. You can, for example, try one of the nice Buzz 509 gins, vegan beers or tasteful olives. We cannot resist our craving for sparkling water, but we could restrain ourselves from the rest. 🙂
Thanks to the Auping beds, sweet dreams and a comfortable sleeping position are guaranteed here.
As for the care products, Marie-Stella-Maris was chosen, with fine, unique scents and a small ecological footprint.
After a wonderful night’s rest, it’s time for a hearty meal to start the day off well. We go for the luxury breakfast with everything included: fruit juice, coffee, bread, viennoiserie, eggs of choice, artisan charcuterie, salmon and freshly prepared granola and yogurt and fresh fruit. Not that hungry or lack of time? No problem at all, as you can also order à la carte.

Pleasant to relax after a busy day in a cosy atmosphere, both for city-trippers and for people living in the area.
