Jetwing Kaduruketha Hotel in Wellawaya, Sri Lanka

Wellawaya is on almost no-one’s Sri Lankan itinerary. Apart from a few old ruins and the local farming way of life it’s an area with little to attract the sightseer. But that is precisely what makes the area interesting, because that’s just what reveals the real Sri Lanka. So don’t listen to the locals, who’ll tell you there’s not really anything to see in Wellawaya, because they’re thinking that what Westerners want is organized tours to go and see ancient monuments, and “things to do”. And of course they’re mistaken.

Lunch Lounge Het Gebaar, Antwerp

Recently, we finally found time to have a proper lunch in Het Gebaar, although just before we did we were at rather a low ebb having just survived a week on not much more than bananas and crackers after being felled by a bad cold. So lunch at Roger van Damme’s for our first proper meal… that’s an extra reason to really let ourselves go!

Salad with lentils, steak and feta

During the weekend we sometimes have flexitarians over for a visit. Flexi-what? Even though these people do eat meat, they opt just as often for vegetarian alternatives. For a while now they have been asking us to go out for a nice steak, as they rarely prepare this for themselves. Today we will serve them a delicious sirloin steak combined with ingredients that can be found in a lot of vegetarian recipes.
