Costes Downtown, Budapest

As the first ”starred” restaurant in Hungary, everyone in Budapest knows Costes. In 2015 this classic of the high-end dining trade gained a trendy sister, called Costes Downtown, in the centre of town. Within a year the youngest member of the Costes family had already pocketed a Michelin star. And rightly so, for of all the places we visited in Budapest this might just have been our favourite. ZONA, Budapest

Few East European cities have so many nice restaurants and bars hidden away in them as Budapest has. In more and more places the mix of old-World grandeur with trendy interior design and beautiful décor makes for a satisfying result. And ZONA is a great example of it. It’s on the Buda side of the Chain Bridge with a view of the water, and the idea is to put that ‘urban vibe’ together in the food and the design of the interior to create a complete experience. And indeed the stylish decor with polished copper, pastel shades and wood has put this restaurant on the prestigious Night Fever list of the world’s best Hospitality Design. Read more

Right in the middle of Budapest centre, close to the Basilica, there’s Borkonyha Winekitchen. Its cooking style is a combination of the French bistro style and contemporary Hungarian influence. The restaurant is stylish inside, and in summer you can also find a place to sit outside on the roomy and attractive terrace. The restaurant already has a Michelin star and simply has to go on any foodie’s “must visit” list for Budapest. Read more

In Budapest, the restaurant absolutely everyone’s talking about is the Onyx, synonymous with pure luxury and classic gastronomy. Everywhere in Onyx, tradition strengthens evolution under Head Chef Támas Széll. Tamás has just won the prestigious 2016 Bocuse d’Or Europe. So all things considered you immediately sense the restaurant’s ambition to earn a second Michelin Star.
