Restaurant Danny, Maasmechelen

To fans of creative cuisine chef Danny Vanderhoven will certainly be no stranger. He exchanged his restaurant in Rekem for another one in a new building about two years ago. And one with class, that is the least you can say, as the beautiful location of the Terhills hotel in Maasmechelen matches perfectly with the style and richness of Danny’s kitchen. That’s our conclusion after a nice, relaxing lunch in the restaurant. The perfect way to start a weekend away.

Le Monde des Mille Couleurs

Ever heard of leek blooms? Fleabane? Electric daisy? Let alone tasted such weird and wonderful things! Well, not to worry! In fact most people just doing their shopping in the supermarket or even at organic shops don’t even know the half of the rich variety of types of plants Nature has to offer. That goes for us too. We think it’s a great shame because the hidden natural flavours of wild plants are so intense but delicate. Suddenly everything you’ve tasted before seems artificial and rather dull. There are thousands of different plants and vegetables and their flowers in the world, each with delightful aromas, flavours and colours. More than enough reason to send this joyful message to the world. At Le Monde des Mille Couleurs –  they couldn’t have come up with a better name! – we got the chance to discover all these plants growing and see them blossom. Continue Reading

Boury in Roeselare

There’s no shortage of plaudits in the reviews of the Boury restaurant in Roeselare. Everyone clearly agrees that top quality is guaranteed with Chef Tim Boury and his Hostess Inge Waeles. Boury soon won its first Michelin Star and the restaurant scored an excellent 17 out of 20 with Gault & Millau. All the same, it’s equally clear that the pair have greater ambitions, so early in 2016 they moved to new larger premises on the Rumbeeksesteenweg. There they could offer their customers greater comfort and take the creativity and quality of their cooking a notch or two higher. So, we thought, high time to go and try it!

FG Food Labs, Rotterdam

For down to earth Sybarites FG Food Labs is the place to be in Rotterdam. The atmosphere there is warm and laid back, the idea being that culinary enjoyment works best if you’re completely at ease. You can turn up in anything from jeans and trainers to your highest stilettos. Just make sure you’re ready for a gastronomic experience of the highest class; you’ll be excited and very impressed. It’s hardly surprising that the place is just about always full, nor that they had a Michelin star in less than a year. But lucky for us – we bagged a table at the last minute. This report records our evening. Continue Reading
