Las Casas de la Juderia, Córdoba

The lure of the old grandeur and the contemporary luxury at Las Casas de la Juderia in Córdoba is great. It is a unique boutique hotel full of character, history and class, situated right in the middle of the historical center of this charming Andalusian city. Pretend to be a king or princess right out of the history books travelling through time to the 20th century and enter in this contemporary palace.

A bit of history in the heart of Córdoba

The location of the hotel is superb. Once outside you are in the Jewish Quarter in a second and also very close to the main attractions such as the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, de Royal Stables, the Arab Baths and the Mezquita (Mosque-Cathedral).

The building of Las Casas de la Juderia consists of several historical houses with their typical patios in Mudejar and Renaissance style, the garden with swimming pool and the large terraces overlooking the Mosque. The latter are partly reserved for private use for the most exclusive rooms.

Fountains, labyrinthine paths, and archaeological treasures create a unique, dreamlike atmosphere. The hotel guests can visit the excavations where a historical brick floor, glassware, appliances to bring rainwater out of a big reservoir to the orchard and typical Mudejar art and silos for storing grain can be found.

las casas de la juderia cordoba history

Before this property was a hotel, Las Casas de la Juderia used to be the house of a couple of renowned noble families. Under the influence of Ignacio Medina Fernández de Córdoba, Duke of Segorbe and Alonso Moreno de la Cova y Silva, it became a place where travelers could spend the night and relax in the traditional charm of the city. It is the mission of the current owners, Pedro Fernández-Salvador Fernández de Heredia and his wife María Martínez-Sagrera Martín to preserve this rich history.

A fun fact is that the current main building is called ‘Casa-Palacio de las Pavas’ by the local inhabitants of Córdoba, which more or less means ‘palace of the turkeys’. On the façade two turkey legs, symbolizing victory and immortality, support the escutcheon of Sigler de Espinosa.

Uniqueness and authenticity are a true asset here, also in the rooms, as all 64 of them have a special design with their own atmosphere. The original decoration with tanned leather, handmade relief decorations, paintings and majestic furniture – all very typical for Cordoba – is shared by all rooms.

Historical class, contemporary luxury

To summarize, in Las Casas de la Juderia you can enjoy peacefully and relax in the middle of the city of Cordoba. The hotel stands for contemporary luxury, combined with historical class.  It all feels very authentic, and everything matches. The reality was even better than the pictures, absolutely worth a visit!

We combined our stay with a gastronomical lunch at Restaurante Choco. You can read more about that here. We discovered the city with a Segway, which was also a very nice experience. 🙂
